Nominations must address nominee qualifications in writing and be received at the Alliance by Friday, July 17, 2009.
The national conference awards committee will review nominations and select the final award recipients by Friday, Aug. 14, 2009.
Awards will be presented at the Alliance National Conference on Oct. 14, 2009 at the InterContinental Houston hotel.

All award recipients will receive a media packet with a news release they may use in their local communities. In addition, the Alliance will recognize each award recipient on its website and in the Alliance for Children & Families Magazine.

In 2009, the Alliance will honor three member agencies for their accomplishments. These three awards will be given based on similar peer groups, defined by the agency annual budget:
Award 1: $5,999,999 and below
Award 2: $6,000,000 – $14,999,999
Award 3: $15,000,000 and above
On agency letterhead, include required essays and contact information (3–5 pages maximum). The criteria timeframe must be July 1, 2008–June 30, 2009.
To honor the legacy of the H. Barksdale Brown Volunteer of the Year Award, describe a significant board initiative and/or achievement that took place between July 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009. In addition, please share the annual support received from your board in terms of attendance, donations, and partnerships.
Describe your agency’s commitment to talent management. Please give specific examples of what your agency has done over the past 12 months to recruit, retain, and develop high performing individuals at all levels of your organization.
Please share a significant public policy initiative your agency has been involved with on the local, state, or national level over the past 12 months. Be sure to include the initiative’s outcome, and if part of a coalition, list the specific role your organization played and what results were achieved.
To honor the legacy of the Robert Rice Innovative Program Award, identify an innovative program you have developed or enhanced over the past 12 months. Be as specific as possible and share what impact your program has had on the children, families, and/or community served by the program.
The winners of this award will be given two complimentary registrations for the 2009 Alliance National Conference, an award plaque, one complimentary registration to attend the 2010 Alliance National Conference to present the award to the new winner, and be nationally recognized on the Alliance website and in the Alliance E-News and Alliance for Children & Families Magazine.
Spirit of the Alliance AwardCreated to recognize nonprofit champions within direct service, the Spirit of the Alliance Award will be given to a direct service staff member from an Alliance member agency. This award will recognize the individual’s direct service to clients, commitment to his or her organization, and dedicated service to children, families, and communities.
Direct service staff member of an Alliance member agency currently providing direct service to clients each day
Has a minimum of two years of direct service experience
Embodies the vision, mission, and values of his or her organization as well as the Alliance network in his or her day-to-day operations
Executive director/CEO should submit a 1–2 page written nomination on agency letterhead with a supporting colleague letter (two pages maximum). Please include contact information.
Although not necessary, applicants may submit supporting evidence (newspaper clippings, printed materials, testimonial letters, etc.). The winning nomination will be selected based on the application, not the supporting materials. These materials may be used during the awards presentation, should the nominee be selected.
The winner of this award will be given a complimentary conference registration, airfare, two nights lodging at the 2009 Alliance National Conference, and a $1,000 cash award. He or she will be presented with an award plaque and be nationally recognized on the Alliance website and in the Alliance E-News and Alliance for Children & Families Magazine.
